Leaf savory is a plant that comes from the Lamiaceae family, growing along the edges of Mediterranean paths. Also known as "poivrette" because of its slightly peppery taste, it was used as a substitute for pepper during World War II. In cooking, savory is one of the herbs in herbes de Provence and is added to soups, stews, sauces, and grilled dishes.
In addition to its flavor, the plant is a good antioxidant and helps prevent cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, and age-related diseases.
Did you know? In the Middle Ages, savory was considered a devil's herb because of its reputation as an aphrodisiac.
