COLOMBO IN SLICES
Sliced colombo (Piper nigrum / traditional spice blend), an aromatic spice with warm, slightly peppery, and mildly robust notes, is ideal for spicing up curries, exotic dishes, sauces, and marinades. Prized for its stimulating and digestive properties, it adds depth and character to all your culinary creations. A natural product, it guarantees an intense aroma and carefully selected quality.
Our coarsely sliced colombo comes from a climbing plant native to East Africa, where the root was primarily used. There, it was mainly used as a traditional remedy, thanks to its ability to stimulate digestion and appetite.
Colombo can be used in several different ways:
- in powder form
- as a whole root
- sliced colombo
Colombo and curry are often confused because of their similar colors. There are countless colombo-based recipes in many parts of the world. Colombo has been a staple of Indian cuisine for centuries, and has also been part of Caribbean and Guyanese cuisine since the 19th century.
Did you know? Colombo is actually a variation of curry. It was the people of the Caribbean who renamed curry “colombo,” after the capital of Sri Lanka, from which they imported it.
