THYME LEAVES
Thyme Leaves (Thymus vulgaris), an aromatic herb with warm, slightly woody, and subtly spicy notes, is ideal for seasoning meats, fish, vegetables, sauces, and marinades. Prized for its stimulating, digestive, and purifying properties, it adds depth and character to all your dishes.
Thyme is an aromatic herb native to the Mediterranean region and is grown during the summer. Primarily used to season many dishes, there are several varieties, such as wild or lemony for lemon thyme.
Dried thyme leaves should have a distinctive, strong, and aromatic scent and flavor that vary depending on their origin. The scent becomes stronger when you rub the dried thyme between your fingers.
The leaves are linear in shape and range in color from ash green to brownish gray, depending on their origin. The powder, which is green to brown in color, contains light-colored fibers.
The different types of thyme include many health benefits. Dried thyme is source of iron and vitamin K, while fresh thyme can be a source of vitamin C, especially for women. It pairs perfectly with meat, fish, pasta, tomatoes, and even soups.
Thyme leaves have antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-infective, and antibacterial properties. They are particularly effective for fight diseases such as bronchitis, chronic cough, and can also be used for the flu. It also provides relief from intestinal problems (gastroenteritis, food poisoning, etc.)
Did you know? The word «thyme» comes from the Latin word *thymus*, which in turn comes from the Greek *thymos*, meaning "smoke." In fact, it was once burned and used as incense to ward off poisonous creatures.
