MYRTLE LEAF
The myrtle leaf (Myrtus communis / aromatic plant), an aromatic blend with fresh, slightly woody, and subtly lemony notes, is ideal for flavoring herbal teas, infusions, sauces, marinades, and Mediterranean dishes. Valued for its digestive and invigorating properties, it adds freshness, authenticity, and character to all your culinary creations. A natural product, it guarantees an intense aroma and carefully selected quality.
The myrtle leaf comes from the myrtle, a plant belonging to the Myrtaceae family. It is very common in many Mediterranean regions (Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily), where it is used primarily in liqueurs, but also to flavor game and other fatty meats.
Myrtle berries (blueberries) are appreciated and consumed for their flavor, which is similar to that of juniper and rosemary leaves.
In addition, the scent of myrtle leaves is so pleasant that they are used to make tea. Their astringent and digestive properties also make them a preferred ingredient. Myrtle is particularly effective in treating childhood diarrhea.
Once distilled, the leaves and flowers are used to create a blend known as «angel water».
Did you know? In Greek mythology, Aphrodite, the goddess of love, wore a wreath of myrtle.
