ORGANIC MARJORAM
Organic marjoram (Origanum majorana), an aromatic herb grown using organic farming methods, offers sweet, slightly herbaceous, and subtly spicy notes—ideal for flavoring sauces, soups, vegetables, meats, and Mediterranean dishes. Valued for its digestive and invigorating properties, it adds freshness, authenticity, and character to all your culinary creations. As a natural product, it guarantees an intense aroma and rigorously selected organic quality.
Our organic marjoram, also known as «garden oregano,» is a plant species cultivated for the culinary uses of its leaves. It's a species very similar to oregano (except for the taste!).
This plant is native to Cyprus and Turkey. It then spread to Asia and later to the Mediterranean region, where it is cultivated as much for its taste as for its medicinal properties.
Marjoram is known for its subtle flavors:
- harsh ;
- sweet ;
- a slightly woody aroma ;
- a certain intensity, which requires careful control of the dosage.
This herb can be used in the form of fresh, dried, or ground leaves. Its aroma is more delicate than that of oregano (It's more similar to the scent of thyme.), which means it should be added at the very end of the cooking process to prevent its subtle flavor from being lost.
Did you know? Hymen, the Greek god of marriage, wore a wreath adorned with marjoram. This became a custom that endured for a long time in Greece.
