To date, the earliest evidence of pasta dates back to second millennium of the era of Jesus Christ ! This takes place in China, in the Lajia region. The term «pasta» comes from the Latin «pasta.».
The pasta comes mainly from China and Italy. But they soon influenced their neighboring countries, which quickly introduced their own varieties: France, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam (among others).
According to legend, Marco Polo brought pasta back to Venice from his first trip to China (in 1295). The Italians’ budding love for pasta is said to have originated there. However, it is believed that this story was invented in 1920 by an American pasta manufacturer. But one thing is certain: Italy then adopted the recipe, eventually claiming it as its own thanks to the Mesopotamian culinary treatise.
Did you know? With 3.2 million metric tons per year, Italy consumes nearly a quarter of the world's pasta production, followed by the United States, Turkey, and Brazil.
