CINNAMON
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), an aromatic spice with warm, mellow, and slightly sweet notes, is ideal for flavoring desserts, beverages, pastries, and savory dishes. Prized for its digestive and warming properties, it adds character and indulgence to all your culinary creations. A natural product, it guarantees an intense aroma and carefully selected quality.
Known since ancient times, cinnamon is an aromatic plant-based substance derived from the bark of the cinnamon tree. Once cut, the bark is dried in the sun, and as it heats up, it curls up on itself to form highly fragrant sticks. In its original form, it resembles small tubes, but it is often consumed in ground form. That’s good news—we offer both forms!
It is believed that it was originally used primarily for its medicinal properties and in religious rituals. First cultivated in China, it traveled along the Silk Road to reach Europe. At that time, it was very expensive and reserved for the wealthiest people. It did not become widely available until the Renaissance and appeared in more than half of French recipes in the 16th century.
It has antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is mainly used to boost the immune system and relieve digestive problems. Cinnamon is also ideal for treating all kinds of winter ailments: colds, coughs, the flu, and other viruses.
Did you know? Cinnamon was considered a very valuable spice, which led the Augsburg merchant Anton Fugger to burn Emperor Charles V’s IOU right before his eyes in a fire fueled by precious cinnamon sticks to prove his wealth!
