Walnut husk is a natural dye derived from the bark of the walnut. The walnut's first layer—green, soft, and fleshy—is called brou. It is natural and can be harvested and processed for use as a dye. As such, it has various uses:
- stain the wood
- make brown ink, used in wash painting and sometimes in calligraphy.
- therapeutic : antiparasitic, antiseptic, and antifungal agents
- cosmetics : used for hair coloring
- and even taste-related : Green walnuts are used to make walnut husk liqueur.
Today, its main use is still for staining wood.
